School of Architecture and Design, Walailak University has initiated the academic collaboration with international institutes since 2018. The first is with School of Art and Design, Faculty of Design and Creative Technologies, Auckland University of Technology (AUT) in New Zealand. We organized a design workshop during 13th to 15th February 2019 in the theme of “The Way We Work (on the Fourth Industrial Revolution – 4IR)” and Prof.Dr.Thomas Mical (Professor of Architectural Theory) gave a special lecture and comments on several proposals. There were approximately thirty architecture students attained, from both Walailak University and Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV).
In academic year of 2019, the school had an internship student from Jiangxi University of Science and Technology at Ganzhou in China. Mr.Baizi Shen (Jason) attained the exchange program between 1st and 30th September 2019. There were various activities including lessons from design, construction, and photography classes; architectural design critique sessions of the third year and the fourth year students, and architectural thesis of the final year students. Moreover, there were construction site visit; architectural competition workshop; and giving a talk of his creative projects to our Walailak students. This created an international learning environment between students, English language skill practice, and a beneficial relation between universities.
During the current situation of COVID-19 pandemic, our school has adapted the activities by using on-line technology. We managed the event of AD Open House 2020 during 28th to 30th August 2020, and organized the AD International Workshop in the theme of “Automation for Daily Living” with Jindal School of Art and Architecture (JSAA), O.P. There were around seventy architecture students from Walailak University, Rajamangala University of Technology Srivijaya (RMUTSV), and Prince of Songkhla University (PSU) at Trang Campus.
Finally, our international collaborations in the future will be engaged with institutes from China, Japan, South East Asia countries and those from the Western world. The programs would be generated via Center for International Affairs – CIA of Walailak University, including Staff and Student Mobilities, Exchange Programs and Publishing Collaborations.
