The School of Architecture and Design, Walailak University, recently visited Universitas Ciputra in Surabaya, Indonesia, to strengthen academic and research collaboration with the School of Creative Industry. The discussion highlighted key areas of cooperation, including the drafting of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), student and faculty exchange, collaborative research, and the organization of international academic conferences.

In addition, both institutions exchanged ideas on curriculum development, teaching and learning innovations, and the improvement of learning environments, as well as the provision of facilities and equipment to enhance student learning in line with global standards.

This visit marks a significant milestone for the School of Architecture and Design, Walailak University, in promoting international cooperation to enhance teaching, research, and academic excellence, while providing Thai students with greater opportunities to engage on the global stage. Congratulations to Assistant Professor Jutamas Chotirat and Research Team on Publication in a Top SCOPUS Q1 Journal

The School of Architecture and Design at Walailak University proudly congratulates Assistant Professor Jutamas Chotirat from the Department of Architecture, along with collaborators Supuck Prugsiganont Van Der Hoeven and Tanut Waroonkun from the Faculty of Architecture, Chiang Mai University, for their recent research article entitled:

“Design and Improvement Guidelines to Promote Well-being for Patients and Their Family in Government Tertiary Care Hospitals.”

This article was accepted for publication on June 23, 2025, in the international journal Frontiers in Built Environment, section Indoor Environment, a highly respected journal indexed in SCOPUS Q1 with a percentile of 80.

The research focuses on design strategies to enhance the well-being of patients and their families within government tertiary care hospitals, emphasizing health-promoting environments and indoor environmental quality. The study offers valuable insights into creating sustainable, supportive, and healing spaces in healthcare settings.

The School of Architecture and Design proudly acknowledges this significant achievement, recognizing the team’s contribution to advancing knowledge that addresses health and sustainability challenges through thoughtful architectural design.

The School of Architecture and Design at Walailak University proudly congratulates the following faculty members and collaborators for their recent publication in the prestigious international journal Cogent Arts and Humanities, indexed in SCOPUS Q1 with a percentile ranking of 91: Associate Professor Chotip Singhamat, Department of Interior Design ,Associate Professor Banjongsak Phimthong, Department of Architecture ,Associate Professor Pratchaya Krisanapan ,Assistant Professor Surinee Kingkad, Department of Interior Design, Van Louis Lo from the Faculty of Education, Sultan Qaboos University, Muscat, Oman

Their research article titled “Rocking Chair Design Made of Oil Palm Wood for Children Aged 3-5 Years Old” was accepted for publication on May 31, 2025.

This study focuses on the design of a rocking chair specifically tailored for children aged 3 to 5 years, utilizing oil palm wood — an abundant resource in Thailand. The research emphasizes a sustainable design approach that integrates safety, comfort, and developmental benefits for children. By employing agricultural by-products as raw materials, the project adds value to local resources and promotes environmentally responsible manufacturing.

Furthermore, the design carefully considers ergonomic principles appropriate for young children’s physical development to enhance their emotional well-being and enjoyment during use.

The publication in Cogent Arts and Humanities, a highly respected SCOPUS Q1 journal, validates the quality and international impact of the research. This achievement not only elevates the reputation of Walailak University but also inspires students and emerging researchers to pursue excellence in creative and meaningful scholarship.

ADWU Goes Global: Walailak University’s School of Architecture and Design Launches 1st International Leadership in Education and Research Networking (i-LEARN) Program at Universiti Sains Malaysia

The School of Architecture and Design at Walailak University proudly initiated the first International Leadership in Education and Research Networking (i-LEARN) program from April 17 to 21, 2024. This inaugural event was held at the School of Housing, Building, and Planning, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), located in Penang, Malaysia, marking a significant milestone in strengthening global academic collaboration.

The i-LEARN program aims to foster the exchange of academic knowledge and research innovation, while establishing a solid foundation for long-term international partnerships. The program brought together faculty members and students from both institutions, creating a dynamic environment for learning and networking.

On the opening day, April 17, Walailak University’s faculty and students actively participated in various enriching activities. They visited the Year 2 Planning Studio at USM, where they were warmly welcomed by USM’s faculty and students. The delegation also attended an inspiring lecture delivered by Ms. Raksiri, followed by a guided tour of USM’s architecture studio, library, and campus facilities.

This collaborative event signifies an important step forward in expanding Walailak University’s global academic network. It provides a meaningful platform for shared learning, cross-cultural exchange, and collaborative research, reinforcing the university’s commitment to academic excellence and international cooperation.
